KALDEWEI furnishes the villa of Johann and Lena König

KALDEWEI, Ahlen, August 2021 – The popular Berlin gallery owner couple, as stylish as always, have opted for washbasins and a bathtub made of high-quality steel enamel.

Berlin is a metropolis of modern architecture. Restored Wilhelminian style villas stand alongside Bauhaus concepts such as the “White City”, designed and planned by Otto Rudolf Salvisberg. The Swiss architect worked in Germany between 1905 and 1930 and created trend-setting buildings in Berlin in line with the Bauhaus idea. This also resulted in the creation of a small residential area in the Wilmersdorf district. The gallery owner Johann König and his wife, art historian Lena König, recently chose one of the two directorate houses as their new private home in the capital. In the course of the renovation, the bathrooms were equipped with enamelled bathroom solutions from KALDEWEI. Two washbasins and a bathtub from the Puro series as well as the elegant Conoflat shower surface were used.

Back in 2017, the villa in Wilmersdorf was redesigned for its current use as a family house. The transformations made over the decades have been lovingly removed and the ground floor adapted. With KALDEWEI in the bathroom, the Königs have deliberately opted for modern and contemporary fittings. “In addition to the sustainability aspect and the service life of the steel-enamel material, we find the clear design language of the products and their functionality particularly exciting,” explains Lena König.

Premium products made of recyclable and sustainable steel enamel were installed in the bathrooms. From now on, hands will be washed in the Villa König in washbasins from the Puro series, designed by the designer Anke Salomon. “I am impressed by the timeless shape that Anke Salomon has created here. The clear profile with its reduced edges combines with a generously dimensioned interior – as a result, functionality does not disappear behind the design concept, but rather it is enhanced in a meaningful way,” explains Johann König, who is considered by many to be the most fashionable gallery owner of our day and a pop star of the Berlin art scene.

In addition to the washbasins, the villa is also equipped with a bathtub from the KALDEWEI Puro series. Furthermore, the generously designed sanitary area was provided with the Conoflat shower surface – designed by the Italian design specialists Sottsass Associati. Conoflat impresses with its flat, puristic design – for unlimited freedom of movement and optimum standing comfort. “Floor-level showers are considered the standard today. But we were particularly impressed by the elegant aesthetics of the glazed surfaces,” emphasise Johann and Lena König.

“The entire bathroom concept fits very harmoniously into the overall picture of the villa. A careful renovation and redesign was very important to us. For the sanitary products, steel enamel with its elegant and aesthetic surface was the ideal choice,” said Anne König, the architect responsible and cousin of gallery owner Johann König, regarding the work on the Berlin villa.
